test Peace is not just an absence of armed conflict. Peace is communities that are able to thrive without sliding into conflict. Peace is farmers working their fields, children going to school, couples falling in love, businesses expanding ---- people living without the threat of obliteration hanging over their heads.
The necessary elements for peaceful communities include understanding human rights, literacy, global health, reducing extreme poverty and more.

On February 11 2008, Jose Ramos-Horta, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and President of East Timor, narrowly survived an assassination attempt at his home.

Nobel Laureates issue Charter for a World Without Violence
"No state or individual can be secure in an insecure world. The values of nonviolence in intention, thought, and practice have grown from an option to a necessity."
In December 2007 the World Summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates released the Charter for a World Without Violence, a document three years in the making.

On Day Two of the malaria distribution, we travel into the mountains, to Hatubelico. We are greeted by hundreds wearing traditional clothing, with lots of singing and dancing.
