Tibet Urgent Action Fund

TheCommunity.com announced Archbishop Tutu's message of support for the Dalai Lama with international press including the International Herald Tribune, the AP and The Los Angeles Times. We partnered with Artists for Amnesty International, the International Campaign for Tibet, Artists for a New South Africa, Foundation for Post Conflict Development and others. Together, we collected 8,000 signatories, including Harrison Ford, Gwyneth Paltrow, Richard Gere, Samuel L. Jackson, Peter Gabriel, George Clooney, Her Majesty Queen Noor, Jeff Skoll, Christy Turlington, and many other notables.

There is, however, much more work to be done. We want to get tens of thousands more signatures on the letter to have a global impact and create a decibel level on the message that cannot be ignored in Beijing.

With our partner the Foundation for Post Conflict, we have established the Tibet Urgent Action Fund to keep the momentum going forward on this campaign. We are raising $25,000 to hire a campaign manager and volunteer coordinator and cover the costs of expanding the public network of support for the Archbishop's message.

We expect this action to continue for the next two and a half to three months. During that time we will be expanding our alliances and taking more actions to expand the viral campaign for signatures. We will be coordinating PR actions and taping and releasing video clips with some of our celebrity supporters, both in the US and abroad, for more media exposure and awareness internationally. And finally, we will be arranging the presentation of the letter, with all signatures, to President Hu Jintao and members of the Chinese Politboro, through contacts already in place.

We hope you will come forward with us as a member of the team making the world's voice heard in the halls of the Chinese Politboro on behalf of the Dalai Lama and the cause of human rights for the Tibetan population.
