ENOUGH was born out of frustration and hope.
We ran out of patience with the world's shameful lack of progress in combating terrible horrors. We knew there were many examples of successful conflict resolution processes throughout Africa, but the lessons weren’t widely known. We found confidence in the growing number of Americans who are demanding more aggressive, more successful solutions. And we have faith that we can end genocide and crimes against humanity once and for all.
The ENOUGH project is an initiative to end genocide and crimes against humanity. It is co-chaired by Gale Smith and John Prendergast, both high level executives in African affairs during the Clinton administration. Gale and John have continued writing and speaking on African affairs, winning journalism and broadcast awards, and serving on the boards of top level NGOs working in Africa, including Oxfam America, USA for Africa, DATA, the Acumen Fund, and more.
ENOUGH’s strategy papers and briefings provide sharp field analysis and targeted policy recommendations based on a “3P” crisis response strategy: promoting durable peace, providing civilian protection, and punishing perpetrators of atrocities. The project then works with concerned citizens, advocates, and policy makers to encourage and fuel action to abolish genocide and mass atrocities.
With a focus on Congo, northern Uganda, Darfur, southern Sudan and Chad, ENOUGH aims to "change the international conversation by demonstrating that progress is possible, and that rhetoric is meaningless without resolute, committed action."
